Kling AI from Kuaishou has taken the AI video world by storm. We test its video quality, motion accuracy, and whether it can compete with Sora and Runway.

In the second half of 2024, a Runway product manager posted a cryptic tweet: "We need to move faster." No explanation, no context. But everyone in the AI space knew what he meant — Kling AI had just released its first demo videos, and the quality of those videos sent the entire Western AI video industry into a collective anxiety spiral.
Kling AI comes from Kuaishou (China second-largest short video platform), but it is not a "Chinese Runway." It has already surpassed Runway on several key dimensions: 2-minute video length (Runway is 10 seconds), more natural character movement, stronger physical consistency. And its pricing is significantly cheaper than Runway.
Behind Kling AI is Kuaishou years of accumulated technical expertise in short video processing and generation. Kuaishou processes billions of short videos every day — that scale of data and engineering experience gives them unique advantages in certain dimensions of video generation, particularly in the naturalness of character movement and temporal consistency.
Kling 2.0 biggest technical breakthrough is 2-minute coherent video generation. This is not just a length increase — it is a fundamental challenge to long-term video content consistency: character appearance, scene lighting, object positions all need to remain consistent across 2 minutes. Kling performance on this dimension is the best of any publicly available video generation model.
Kling AI international access experience is not as smooth as Runway. The registration process, payment methods, and customer support all have a noticeable "internationalization still in progress" feel. For users who need a stable commercial workflow, this is a real friction point.
Content moderation is stricter than Runway. As a Chinese company, Kling has more restrictions on certain content types. This does not affect most commercial use cases, but may be an issue for creative professionals who need to generate certain specific content.
Kling AI is best for: projects requiring longer video clips (over 10 seconds), creators who need high-quality video on a budget, content requiring natural character movement. Not ideal for: users who need a complete professional workflow and toolchain (Runway is more mature), enterprise users who need stable commercial SLAs.

Short Film Director
Kling AI surprised me completely. The 2-minute video generation is a game-changer. The motion quality rivals Runway at half the price. For indie filmmakers on a budget, Kling is the best value in AI video right now.

I have been using Kling for Instagram Reels and the quality is genuinely impressive. The image-to-video feature is my favorite.
